Ice Breakers
For our first page, we were tasked with moving to different partners in the class and drawing each of them in different, challenging ways. The first (left), I had to draw a classmate with one continuous line, being quickly followed with the second (middle), of which I had to use my left hand to draw a different classmate in one continuous line. The last sketch was a normal continuous line, alike the first, to show the difference in confidence between the three. The third sketch is definitely my favourite out of the three, it is showing a massive change in confidence and being larger with more detail. If I were to change or redo these challenges, I would go in large and darker, and enjoy the challenge rather than trying to make it look good.
If I were to redo this challenge, I would focus on the bigger shapes and details on the first task, rather than the smaller details, and do the second task in a continuous line as to make it easier.
For these last two sketchbook challenges, we were asked to draw our classmates normally, but do one with a normal HB pencil, and the other in either a graphite pencil or charcoal. The first sketch I chose to do loosely, focusing more on the larger details rather than the smaller, trickier bits. I like the way I drew the furry coat in this sketch, without solid lines to create the effect of fluff. The second sketch was also done loosely, but with a graphite pencil, which made doing details trickier due to the thicker end. However, I do like how it turned out, with texture and shading. I would redo this sketch larger, so I could add more detail to the shading and the sketch as a whole.
This page was created with watered down paints, painting 'realistic' portraits of people in my class. The two in the middle (bottom left and middle) are by far my favourite out of the page; both of them highlighting the tonal differences within the portraits, whilst also being simple. I did mess up the middle piece slightly with the black area on the shirt, putting the shading in the wrong place and making the body look incredibly skinny and not in proportion. I don't like the other two portraits on this page, one being incredibly small and light, and the other being very cartoony and rough.

In this last task, we were asked to pair up with a classmate we didn't know, get to know them, and then draw them surrounded in their interests and/or hobbies. I paired up with Chloe, who I found to be very similar to me, so I found drawing her to be much easier than expected.
I chose this composition to highlight Chloe being the main part of this piece, choosing to frame her in dark areas and lightly painted words that describe her to push the idea of her being the main focus. I really enjoyed painting this piece as not only could I experiment with different techniques and tricks to use with paint, but I also had Chloe to refer back to, to ensure everything that I created was accurate. She also helped me by modeling and giving my critiques to help push my piece that little bit more.
Chloe's page of me :)
