Week Three

Week 3 'Scene of the crime' For the first part of this brief, we were sent into the Forensic Crime scene house on campus, who had set up multiple scenes in multiple rooms for us to draw. We were given free reign with how to record everything, only being told to use what we have learnt beforehand in past lessons. I stayed in my comfort zone in the first two pages, enjoying drawing something very different and exciting. I used the frames I created in past lessons and practiced choosing smaller parts of a scene and experimenting with what I have got. I chose to be quick and loose in some, using continuous lines in others. However, I loved my last page I created, my confidence clearly had grown. Using pens and bold mark making to express the scene in front of me, also making notes of my thoughts as I was drawing. I also love my small uses of colour on this page, really creating a pop on the page. Task 2 For the second task, we were asked to use the scenes from the first task and c...

Week 2 Observational Drawing For the first task, we were asked to draw the still life model. The instructions weren't specific and although I did consider drawing the full model, I decided to draw one section in detailed mark making instead, to lessen the load in short time. I'm really happy with how it turned out, especially with half an hour to create it. I would add a larger variety of mark making techniques however, if I were to change it. After this, we used frames we created beforehand to draw certain sections of the model in 1–2-minute time spans. This was a fun exercise, although I would definitely add more colour and materials to the mix if I were to do it again. In the end we were asked to create one final piece, of which I chose to do loosely and with a larger variety of mark making techniques. However, I feel I could have done much better had I sped up more and not focused so much on little details.

Week One Ice Breakers For our first page, we were tasked with moving to different partners in the class and drawing each of them in different, challenging ways. The first (left), I had to draw a classmate with one continuous line, being quickly followed with the second (middle), of which I had to use my left hand to draw a different classmate in one continuous line. The last sketch was a normal continuous line, alike the first, to show the difference in confidence between the three. The third sketch is definitely my favourite out of the three, it is showing a massive change in confidence and being larger with more detail. If I were to change or redo these challenges, I would go in large and darker, and enjoy the challenge rather than trying to make it look good. For these two challenges, we were asked to do the first (top) from memory, and the second (bottom) without looking at the page. Both challenges served to be difficult for me, especially the second, but I enjoyed letting lo...
